I am such an idiot! It finally hit me what that red / means. I can k2tog, or I can do a ssk if I want a directional decrease. I wasn’t reading too much into it but rather I wasn’t reading it correctly. Even after I typed it here exactly the way it is printed. Gah!
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about weaving again. When I was in California, I went to Stick & Stone Fibers to see a real life loom. Probably not a wise move because now I want one, either a rigid heddle or table loom. Even though I still haven’t used one or know how to use one, I’ve been checking them out on ebay. Because, you know, I need more shit to move. The good thing is that I don’t know what’s good and what’s not so I’m too afraid to actually bid on one. There’s one on there that the seller didn’t know anything about the loom, just that it was left in the house when he/she bought it. (Someone let him/her know it’s a Baby Wolf 26″.) I’m so jealous.
Hubby comes in tomorrow morning at 5am. The house looks like a pigsty and I don’t care. So there!

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to explain re the k2tog/ssk thing. Now you know why I’m not a teacher.
I’ve owned a loom in the past — a large (44″ weaving width, I think) 4-harness Louet Hollandia. I don’t think they make that model anymore though. If I was buying one today (and don’t think it doesn’t cross my mind a LOT), I’d buy an 8 harness/10 treadle loom with a 20″ minimum weaving width. You can weave lots of patterns on a 4 harness loom, but you’ll keep seeing all these nifty patterns for things woven on 8 harnesses. Or 12, or 16. But I think 8 harnesses would do for me.
With floor looms, you can get into a rhythm of treadle with feet, throw shuttle, beat. With a table loom, you have to flip a lever by hand, throw shuttle, beat. Still doable, but not quite as easy and rhythmical.

Maybe you should buy it as a house warming present to yourself after you move. Then you won’t have to move it. Plus, buying it as a house warming present is a totally justifiable reason to buy one.
Enjoy your weekend!

Yeah. Well at SAFF I decided I needed a loom, too. Only, same thing-what the hell do I really know about looms and how much would I actually use it and where on earth do I think I’m gonna put it? Except when I mentioned it to my husband he was like OOO I WANT A LOOM TOO.
Luckily for me, that made me not want it as much. Have fun with yours, though!

Yeah, I’m with you on the “house is a pigsty” front…why clean when you can sit by the fire and knit?
