Around the bend
I’m still knitting on the shawl. I have the edging attached to one side and I’ve just turned the corner on one end.
I screwed up a tad. I started attaching the edge one row later than I should have. Like, I was supposed to attach it starting at row 5 and I started it at row 6, or whatever the rows were. At the corners, you’re supposed to do a specific number of double joins and triple joins. With my goof, i have one less triple join on the long side and one more triple join on the short side. This really irritates me. I don’t know if it will make a difference in the grand scheme of things but i do know I’m not ripping out the whole edge and starting over. The corners will just have to be off and I’ll do what I can with blocking.
People, I have boxed up almost all of my knit type stuff and I would be so embarrassed to admit how many boxes it’s actually taken. The only things I’ve kept out are a couple of lace weight yarns and The Book. Or so I thought. I forgot about the small box of Koigu, a few balls of wool for headbands, and the sock that I stopped working on after getting obsessed with The Book. Then I remembered the yarn in those bags beside my seat. And there’s yarn down by the computer. And there’s a huge bag of Cotton Ease in the basement. And a few books on the kitchen table. (Cotton Ease is back by the way, in new colors. Also, you can now buy pink cords for Denise needles. Thought I’d pass that on in case you hadn’t heard.) Just when I think I have it all under control, I find more knit stuff that can be boxed up. I seriously have way too much stuff. Now if I were smart, I’d use all that yarn as packing material for breakables but there’s this weird (ocd?) side of me that wants like items to be in seperate boxes.
Now I’m going to complain about a non-knitterly thing
So I sent an email for support over an issue with the blog. Part of it went something like this:
I can’t upload a file via cpanel. I get this repeating error message that says blahblahblah (which I copied, and it says it can’t find the freaking directory I’m in). I don’t have any problems uploading via ftp. I did manually upgrade to WordPress 2.0.5 but I don’t see how that would affect me being able to upload via ftp but not cpanel. Also, there is that one folder still out there that I can’t delete.
Five days later, I get a reply. Hey, I guess I should at least be thankful I got a reply for this one.
I increased your disk space. For deleting folders, you have to delete each file in it first. It’s kind of a protection thing so you don’t delete a folder by accident.
Um, okay. I would think that if I can upload files via ftp, disk space isn’t the problem. Did someone even bother reading the error message? And you do not have to delete each file first because I’ve deleted several folders and all files under it several times. So, back went another email:
The problem isn’t diskspace, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to upload a file via ftp. Not to mention, before even trying to upload the file I had deleted several folders. I just tried uploading the file again (remember, they increased my disk space) and I’m still getting the same error message.
Also, I’ve tried deleting those files in that trouble folder and I can’t delete them singly either.
Three hours later, I get a reply. Wow, 3 hours. Truly a record. /sarcasm
So you’re only trying to delete now? Uploads are fine?
Hello? Anyone home? Do you even attempt to read and understand the words that you are reading? I give up. I’m not even going to bother with another email. Did I not explain it well enough? Tell me, I won’t be mad. Maybe I just expect too much based on actually supporting software, which usually included helping clients with hardware. Maybe it’s just that time of the month.

That poor customer service would be something that would cause us to rant and rave around here! Aggrevating!
As far as the number of knitting boxes you have, yarn doesn’t weigh much. You won’t be adding much to the overall weight in the moving truck.

Is this with WP or your host? Wouldn’t you like to just reach through the DSL line and clasp a bony hand around some little geek’s throat and shake him? Put the joystick down and READ you little nerd! That’s what I always envision with tech support. I won’t tell you what I envision in the mall.
The lace is looking beautiful. And didn’t you know it’s bad luck to pack your yarn until everything else is packed?
