I never really thought of myself as a Retail Therapy person. When things go wrong or I get stressed, I normally like to hide in a hole. You’d have to practically drag me out of the house. Or so I thought. But then came yesterday, and I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve been lying to myself about my shopping habits. You see, last night at 6:30, I went to the yarn shop and bought yarn. Yarn that I never thought I’d buy, at least never pay full price for. Rowan Kidsilk Haze. I have good reasons. Really.
Reason 1: There’s a bit (a bit, ha! that’s an understatement) of rebellion in me. I had to get this yarn to start knitting Loden Mist from the spring Knitters before everyone else and their sister start knitting it. If everyone else started first, I’d rebel and swear not to knit it just because everyone else was doing it.
Reason(s) 2: (Yes, I’m going to bitch again. I think you all secretly like my bitching so who am I to deny you the pleasure of reading it.) This has not been the best of weeks.
Monday - My car heard rumors of a certain tax refund and decided it wanted it’s fair share for maintenance. Sixteen hundred shares. I considered taking it to the mall and leaving the keys in it.
Tuesday - I broke a piece on the garage door opener (long story, I’m a tard) so now it slams into the motor housing before it stops. Well, the motor housing is what stops it now instead of the nifty little plastic piece. I’m getting better about remembering to not let the door open completely though.
I forgot to buy super glue to (hopefully) fix that.
Wednesday - I spied a big brown spot on the ceiling upstairs. There’s a leak and someone was coming to see the house in an hour and a half. I rushed to Lowes, bought Kilz and covered it up before they got here. Called our realtor about it and she says “Oh yeah, I noticed that yesterday when I was showing the house.” Bitch, tell me when you see stuff like that. Heating & Refrigeration guy and roof guy, since I’m not sure if the roof or the furnace is the culprit, can’t make it until Monday.
I forgot to buy super glue again.
Thursday - the caulk in the shower, that we just paid to have re-caulked 2 months ago, is cracking and separating from the wall of the shower. Hey, maybe the water from that will run into the ceiling in the family room and I can play with Kilz again! It’s not like we just had these two particular ceilings painted two freaking months ago. A different guy (the son who owns? runs? the company) is coming out on Saturday to look at the caulk job his pop did. (I caulked the shower 3 years ago and it didn’t come off, but it was starting to look gross and since caulking is a pain in my ass, we hired someone else to do it. I should have done it myself.)
So I bought yarn. I also bought flowers and pots to put them in. (But I did not buy super glue.) Then I felt bad for buying yarn and flowers when there are other things fighting for the attention of the checkbook. The week is almost over but I wonder if something else is going to bite me in the ass before Sunday gets here. Dare I hope that this week is done with it’s little events? Maybe I shouldn’t be knitting on Loden Mist until next week? No, I will rebel against the little things life is throwing my way and I will continue on. Hear that Life? You will not defeat me.

Don’t give in - knit on! (Picture needles in the air)
Sorry - that was dorky. I’m with you on this kid. Find the pleasure where you can because life is a menopausal bitch some days.

I find myself in need of retail therapy occasionally too. And at least the yarn and project you picked show your good taste!

Hey - at least you can’t eat yarn right? That’s what I tell myself anyway!

I went to the yarn shop today for some retail therapy… but ended up coming out empty handed. I’m pretty sure that’s because my husband didn’t call my cellphone while I was in the shop.. hee hee.

When I was 16 and I failed my driver’s license test, my mom took me shopping. This was amazing because we were very poor and we didn’t “go shopping”. You know what? It helped. Then eventually I became a professional shopper and it kind of lost it’s charms. But recently after a day of cleaning out my mom’s house and sending her dogs to the shelter, I bought yarn. LOTS of yarn. Yarn I won’t use. I will just look at it and squish it and feel better. You totally deserved some yarn after a crappy week like this!

Reasons why it’s okay that you bought the yarn:
1) You’ve been wanting to try this yarn for a long time.
2) The Man told you that you could buy some yarn.
3) It’s a beautiful color and it’s going to look fabulous on you.
4) You deserve to have something good happen this week.
I can’t wait to see it in person! By the way, where were you buying yarn at 6:30 at night?

After all that, you definitely deserved yarn. And not just any yarn would have done!
