Meep
It’s been a week and there are still boxes to unpack. The cats have initiated the house by tossing a few hairballs. And I have started a new project. There’s only so much unpacking and organizing a girl can do before she goes crazy

This is the beginning of the Kilimanjaro Kat Shawl. The pattern calls for a sz 6 needle, I’m using an 8, and if I wanted to get gauge (18sts/4 inches unblocked) I’d have to go up to a 10. This may be a baby blanket when it’s done. If it does work out as a shawl, I’ll be dyeing it. As much as I like pink, this isn’t a good pink for me.
We’ve met 2 of the neighbors and both are really nice. The Man and I were out in the garage and one of them came over. I haven’t met his wife yet but he tells me she is a quilter. Upon seeing the loom:
Neighbor: Is that a loom?
RK: Yes
N: Do you do that?
RK: Not yet, but I’m going to learn.
N: We have a huge one in our garage. It belonged to a deceased relative. We drove a truck to that state to pick it up. It needs a little tlc but if you ever want to bring it over and work on it, feel free.
RK: (silence and a look of OMG you just offered to let me play with your BIG loom and you don’t really even know me yet and how big can it be if you’re telling me I can bring it to my garage) Okay, thanks!
Then last night, while taking the trash to the curb, I looked at the other neighbors house as I was walking back up the drive. She had her front curtains open and I could see her inside knitting. Crafty persons on both sides of me, yay!
The previous owner will be back in town this coming weekend and once again staying with the neighbor (the knitting one). She had knitting neighbor come over and ask us to hold her mail for her (since she still hadn’t turned in a change) and she’ll get it when she’s in town. There are two things that bother me. One is that she took forever (we finally got a notice in the mail yesterday) to have her mail forwarded to her new address. The other is that she cries when she talks to us about this house. It’s not like we forced her to sell the house but it still makes us feel bad. And she’s known her new address for several weeks so why didn’t she go ahead and turn in a forwarding order to start on a specific date? I know she doesn’t want to let go of the house but it’s definitely time to cut the ties.

Dude, it’s just not FAIR. First you get a loom for next to nothing, then you get the offer of using a BIG loom??
Jeezopete.
Seriously, that’s great! Have fun with it!

Score! Now you won’t have to travel to knit or weave with people. Have you told Knitter Neighbor that you knit?

Thanks for putting me on your stalkee’s list! Your shawl is nice. I like the weighty look of it. If you dye it, what color?
Learning to weave? You have more motivation than anyone I know! Congrats on the offer of a BIG loom as well. What a deal!!!
Must go knit now, been on the internet all day - teehee

Looks like you definitely ended up in the right neighborhood. And I think the former owner is having a bad case of denial about moving. Sadly, I can kind of identify with her (although she really should have taken care of that mail thing a while ago, no matter what.)

The shilly-shallying must end. All either of you needs to do is put a note in the mailbox. She can follow up with a formal change of address later, but the post office is the one who should be holding her mail, not you. From the PO perspective, she’s really a pain in the ass. Not that she isn’t from YOUR perspective.
