Knitters Log Sept 12

September 12th, 2007 by Restless Knitter

The guy at the post office couldn’t have cared less that someone else ate my cookies. He insisted that our regular mail lady is good at her job. I wanted to scream nasty things at him.

I’m itching to start something but I can’t decide what. I picked up Wrapped In Comfort at Anacapa Fine Yarns a couple of weeks ago and I’d like to make something from that. The problem is the yarn. Most of my shawl yarns are laceweight, and most of the ones called for in the book are sport and above. The sportweight yarns I have are cotton and I don’t wanna do one in cotton. The ones that aren’t cotton are ones that I want to use for tops, not shawls. I’m refusing to buy more yarn (except for that ball of sock yarn that I might have bought at Wildfiber last week, shh don’t tell) so I’ll either bite the bullet and do cotton, or I’ll double some KnitPicks Alpaca Cloud and see if that works. And what will most likely happen is something shiny will catch my eye before I can decide and I won’t even get one started.

Speaking of KnitPicks, I’m sure you’ve all seen their new needles. You know I want them, just because they are in color.

One of these days, I’m going to get the crap beat out of me, or worse. I can’t seem to keep my mouth shut. I finally found a grocery store that makes the same donut I like from Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s a self serve thing. The donuts are in a case with glass doors, you reach in with a piece of paper and grab the donut you want. There was someone already at the case when I walked up so I waited behind her. As I waited, she took a donut that she was holding in her hand and put it back in the case. With her bare hands! I was pissed. “You’ve got to be kidding me! You just handled that with your bare hands and you put it back??!!” She turned and just stared at me. I glared back. There was a brief moment of silence, unless you want to count the steam coming out of my ears as a noise. “Don’t you think you should at least give it to those guys behind the counter so no one else has to eat the donut that you touched with your bare hands!” She decided to buy the donut.

Then there was a day when we still lived at the apartment. My car was parked along the street and I walked out to find some guy looking into it. I stood and watched him for a few minutes, then I walked toward him and asked him if he seen anything in there he liked. He started walking toward me and said “Wut?” I asked again “See anything in there you like?? You sure were doing a lot of looking” even though I was starting to get a little scared. He was coming straight at me. What if he had a knife? Then I thought thank goodness I had a bag of canned food in my right hand, I could at least whack him with that if he came too close.

    1) That’s so bad that someone did that with your package. And that someone lives near you. I was be upset about that for a long, long time. (That’s the kind of thing I tend to hold on to.)

    2) Those Harmony needles are cool! I saw them last night when I ordered my blocking wires. (Hey, look at me! I’m a lace knitter!)

    3) Congratulations on finding a replacement donut! But, I’m worried that you are going to get beat up. People are unpredictable.
