Moving right along

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

I’ve been zipping right along on the back. See?

I think I’ve already found my next project. Take a look. I got the link from Threaded Bliss. You really should go to the Photos section and look around there. It leaves me speechless, I just don’t know what to say.

Fudge

I started something for me.

I started with the sleeve, mostly because I hate being stuck on sleeve island but also because I wanted to check the gauge and fit. The fit was bad. The cat could’ve crawled up in the wrist and hid in there it was so big. I decided to do it my way and adjusted the cast on count, which means I had to adjust the increases. Add to that, I’m not getting row gauge (hate you Gauge!) so I may have to adjust the decreases for the sleeve cap. I’ve done it as it’s written but put in some lifelines in case I need to rip back and change them. I won’t know if I need to do that until I can get at least the back and possibly one of the fronts done. I’m hoping it all fits together and I don’t have to do too much more fudging of the pattern.

Only one person showed up last night but I still had a good time. We’re going to change the night to Thursday starting next week and see if that goes better. If not, then we’ll be content with just the two of us.

Lean mean cleaning machine

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

I’ve gone on a cleaning spree for the last couple of days so not much knitting. I should rephrase that. I went on a cleaning spree a couple of days ago, then I printed a bunch of patterns that I’d had saved on the computer and put them in binders. Having them on the computer is great because it saves paper and expensive ink, but it’s also nice to have them on paper and organized so I can look through them whenever I want. I ran across several patterns that I’d forgotten about, some of which I really want to knit. Anyhoo, it feels so much better to have the house looking decent. I don’t know why it’s so hard for two adults to keep stuff picked up. There must be a Clutter Fairy that comes in while we aren’t looking. The Fairy likes to pile up the mail, leave knitting magazines and books all around my knitting spot, pulls out yarn, dirty up the dishes and leave them in the sink, pull hair off the pets, and all kinds of other stuff. It’s embarrassing. The Man told me I should invite someone that I recently met over some time and I was horrified at the thought of someone seeing our mess. It’s much better now, but I’m waiting to see how long I can keep the Clutter Fairy at bay.

Tomorrow night will be the first knitting meetup I talked about a few days ago. I’m so excited! If you’re in the Alpharetta or Duluth area, please stop by. We’ll be meeting at Higher Grounds from 7pm - 9pm. I may ask if anyone is opposed to changing it to Thursdays. There’s one person that Monday is totally out for, and another that would rather it be Thursday. Wednesdays are out for a couple of people. I know I can’t make everyone happy, but I’d really like for anyone that wants to come to be able to make it. I’m so not good at organizing things like this but I really wanted something closer to home.

This is what happens when you leave one of these

alone with your favorite yarn snippers on the coffee table

Thankfully they weren’t expensive and I even had a spare one. Normally she’s very good at about staying home out of her crate. This particular day I had been gone quite a bit and I guess it was her way of telling me she really didn’t care for being left for that long. It could have been worse. She could have gotten to the poinsettia squares and yarn much easier.

And now I’m going to rant (and play with the More tag)

Easiest from-scratch cake ever

Friday, June 16th, 2006

Because any picture I would show you of current knitting (baby sweater, start of next poinsettia square, finished washcloth) would be boring, I’m instead going to pass along an easy recipe that was given to me a long time ago. Which was given to the giver even longer ago. I have no idea where it originated so if you recognize it, let me know

Fruit Pudding Cake

1 Cup sugar
1 Cup flour
3/4 Cup milk
2 tsp baking powder
1 stick oleo/margarine/butter
1 can fruit of your choice
Melt oleo in pan. Mix sugar, flour, baking powder, and milk. Pour over melted butter. Add fruit on top of that. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min

It looks like a huge mess when you put it in the oven. Butter that’s come up over the cake batter, fruit sinking in, so don’t worry that you did it wrong. I used a 20 oz can of pineapple chunks, but you can use whatever you’re in the mood for. As for the size of the can, that depends on how much fruit you want in there. The 20 oz was almost too much but it was what I had so I went with it. There’s no pan size stated but I seem to remember it’s a 9 x 12 (12.5? 13?) , which is what I used. I used a disposable one because I’m lazy and I hate washing dishes. I baked ours for 35 minutes, it just depends on your oven. It’s not a fluffy cake like you bake from the box. I don’t know how to describe it really. If you really want to know, you’ll just have to make one.
