Remember when I was bragging about all the bargains I was getting, and I said I knew I would pay for it. So yeah, payback is here. Christmas Eve brought us a furnace that didn’t want to work anymore. The heating place (the one that installed the new furnace right before we moved in 4 years ago) was closed the day after Christmas so we called our regular heating folks. I can go 2 days wrapped up in afghans but more than that and I tend to get cranky. Not good when The Man is finally home for a week and the kid and her boyfriend are going to be here for a week. The bad news is that 2 parts were dead and the place to order them from was also closed the day after Christmas. The good news is that our heating guys found that the parts are under warranty so we escaped that $140, though we still had to pay for the service call. We finally got heat on Thursday. The coldest it got in the house was in the 50’s, which is too cold for me. Hooray, heat!

When I take the dog for her walk, we go out through the garage. This way, I don’t have to carry jingly keys, just a little opener for the garage door. Not today though. When I pushed the button, the door went up a quarter of the way and stopped, though it kept trying to open while making a horrendous noise. Multiple tries, all the same result. I popped the release and opened the door manually, then tried to use the opener again. That didn’t work so well either. The middle bar started twisting, which caused one of the metal pieces to bend. I’m pounding the button, yelling at the door to stop. It finally heard me. Why couldn’t this wait until after we moved out? Why why why? I mean, come on! It all waited until after we moved in to have problems. (Several things went wrong right after we moved in causing lots of frustrated tears on my part.) Why couldn’t it wait for the next person? In with a bang, out with a bang I suppose.

All that money I saved on my bargains, gone. It’s okay though. I’d really rather not sell the house in bad shape. I don’t want anyone else to go through the crap we did when we moved in.

Despite my complaining, I had a truly wonderful week. Like I said, The Man was home and it was great seeing him for more than 2 days. The daughter and her fiance were also here, and it was great seeing them too. I wish they were all still here. Daughter saw the booties I’d knit for myself and requested a pair in black. I showed her the clog pattern which she liked better, so I whipped up a pair for her. My other daughter requested a hat with ear flaps (is that one or two words?) for the baby. I didn’t take a picture of either of them. There aren’t many people who haven’t seen the felted clog, and the hat pattern I used was from Strings and Sealing Wax. Picture the red one in a brown shade. I squeezed in two projects before the year ended, go me! Tonight, it’s back to work on the shawl.
