Multilingual knitting
Saturday, September 8th, 2007The owner of Habu Textiles, Takako Ukei, was giving a 1 hour workshop on how to read Japanese knitting patterns at Wildfiber. Guess who decided to go. Me! Wildfiber is around 40 miles from here but the drive isn’t so bad when there are such beautiful views along the way. The ocean on one side of the road, mountains on the other, and perfect weather for having the windows down.
Takako is such a sweet person. I truly enjoyed her workshop and I’m so glad I went. I only wish I didn’t have to leave before she was completely done. We’ll chalk it up to someone being late so it started late (traffic can do that, understandable), some women who.. I’m not even going to attempt to describe how they caused the workshop to run so far behind, and me running out of change for the parking meter (when I’d already left the workshop once and fed it all that I had left). Like I told The Man, I was really irritated at the women but at the same time, I know they paid their $10 and wanted to understand also. Why is it that it’s always the women who come together though? It seems like every time I’ve gone to a class, it’s always the 2 that come together that cause the most trouble.
Enough of my bitchiness. Now that I’ve taken the workshop, I’ve been browsing the Japanese pattern books online. I found quite a few that I want. This is also known as filling up the Amazon.jp cart with over $100 worth of books! I should probably look at one in person before I let my cockiness take control of my credit card so no punching the Checkout button. I’ve found one store in LA that might carry some of the books and I hope to check them out soon. Because, y’know, I just don’t have enough pattern books around here.
